Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Removal Treatment
How does laser hair removal work?
The laser is attracted to the dark pigment in the hair color. The hair follicle is destroyed by the heat energy in the laser beam.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal is permanent hair reduction approved by the FDA. Research studies demonstrate an estimated 80% reduction of hair for up to two years.
Is hair removal treatment painful?
A topical anesthetic may be applied along with ice packs before treating the area. A thin coating of cool gel is applied to the area being treated which helps to keep the skin cool.
How long do the treatments take?
We can treat some areas in only a few minutes. Others, such as
the back or legs, require 20-45 minutes. For example, the underarms
or bikini lines take about fifteen minutes.
Will the hair be gone after one treatment?
Some hair may be eliminated after one treatment, however hair loss will be more evident approximately 10-14 days after the 2nd or 3rd treatment.
How many treatments will be necessary and what is the frequency of treatments?
This depends on the area of the body to be treated. Typically, patients have between 3 and 8 treatments that are anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks apart depending on the area of the body. Patients may need 1-2 treatments yearly to maintain results.
What type of skin does the laser hair removal work on?
We have lasers to safely treat all skin types including dark skin.
Can I use any other methods of hair removal during my treatments?
There should be no tweezing or waxing 4 weeks prior to treatment. We need the root to be there so we can destroy it. Patients need to shave the area to be treated within 12 hours of treatment so the energy will go straight to the root instead of the hair protruding from the skin.
Is there anything else I cannot do before or after treatment?
Patients are not to tan 48 hours prior to treatment unless they cover the area being treated. There are certain medications that we will ask you to avoid as well, and they are listed on the pre-treatment instructions that you will be provided with prior to scheduling.
